Bluefin tuna, a highly migratory species, is regarded as one of the most magnificent and highly evolved species of fish. Built for speed and endurance, bluefin tuna can reach speeds of up to 50 mph and weigh as much as 1,500 pounds. Prized in sports fishing and valued by consumers, bluefin tuna are the basis of incredibly lucrative commercial and recreational fisheries. One fish can sell for tens of thousands of dollars. Regrettably, growing consumer demand coupled with increases in water temperature and decreases in food availability has lead to the decline of bluefin tuna populations throughout the world's oceans.

You can help by contacting the Secretary of Commerce and expressing your support for stringent limits on bluefin tuna fishing and protection of spawning areas in domestic and international waters of the Atlantic.
